Joint reflection on the HUNOR programme and beyond

It was a great experience for us to attend the launch event of the HUNOR programme, where a truly diverse range of perspectives came together: academia, technology and business shared their thoughts on the opportunities for the space industry in Hungary.

One of the most interesting elements of the programme was the round table discussion, where not only the invited guests answered questions – the audience could give their own perspective on the same questions. It was a fresh, active format that sparked a real sense of community in the room.

Our colleague László Simon joined the discussion on behalf of the business side – we are glad that he was able to share his experiences in this dynamic professional environment. The participation was particularly timely for us, as the WREN-1 satellite was launched in the framework of our GINOP project – details are available at wren.hu side. Although Tibor Kapu’s flight is still ahead of us, the current results show how tangible the presence of the space industry in Hungary has become.

During the discussion, questions were raised that illustrate the potential of this ecosystem:
💬 Is the space sector now hype or long-term, solid growth?
💬 Which areas are likely to see the biggest impact from the HUNOR programme? – Education, research, industrial innovation, international visibility, societal interest?
💬 Who are the key players in the development of the domestic space economy? – universities, research institutes, ministries, SMEs, start-ups or all together?

Participants of the discussion “Positive impacts of the HUNOR programme on the Hungarian innovation ecosystem: status, vision and opportunities”, alongside our colleague László Simon:
🔹 Prof. Dr. Attila Gácser – SZTE TTIK
🔹 Prof.  József Bokor – HUN-REN SZTAKI
🔹 Prof. Dr. Tamás Haidegger – Óbuda University, Initium Venture Labs Zrt.
🎤 Moderator: Dr. Péter Kristóf – Infotér

The discussion also explored what directions the HUNOR programme can open up for Hungarian researchers and companies, and what forms of support can promote space-related initiatives.
