Our WREN – Water Resources in Efficient Networks project has been completed!
The aim of the scheme is to support the protection against the adverse effects of climate change and drought damage using modern digital tools. The real-time, complex decision support system has the potential to improve the spatial and temporal resolution of current drought monitoring systems in practice, using remotely sensed and local data, and implementing innovations based on geospatial, mathematical and artificial intelligence.
The project has resulted in a satellite with a unique design and novel measurement capabilities, whose orbit will touch Hungary more frequently than commercial satellites. In addition, a unique server and system architecture as well as a web application were implemented to achieve multi-resolution forecasting.
The innovation was implemented on 30 June 2025 as a project of a consortium of Combit Computer Technology Ltd., Óbuda University and Széchenyi István University, with the help of a HUF 756.55 million non-reimbursable grant awarded through the GINOP PLUSZ-2.1.1-21-2022-00040 call for proposals.
