Infress 2.0&#8221;. Grepton Zrt. The InFress (Integrated Fracture Evaluation System and Software) modelling system previously developed by the University of Cyprus represents a significant scientific advance in the implementation of rock-fracture modelling, but previous research has highlighted areas not covered by the system that could be taken to a much higher level of predicting the hydrodynamic behaviour of rock-fracture rock. The present project aims at the implementation of new procedures, technologies and system components that will make the prediction of the hydrodynamic behaviour of rock ash more automated and accurate. The project has resulted in the development of the Infress2 software package. Four major modules are planned to be included. The first is a more complex treatment of the fracture aperture (aperture), which determines the hydrodynamic behaviour of the fracture system, by integrating all the relevant primary data. Since fracture network modelling is a stochastic process, there is no single good solution, and therefore the most likely solution, and its estimation uncertainty, can be obtained by a common interpretation of a large number of equally likely realisers. The correct interpretation of the various 1-, 2- and 3-dimensional property models that result from the calculations is greatly aided by the ability to represent them realistically and to manipulate and perform operations on the models in virtual reality. The simulation is based on fracture geometric parameters obtained by analysing digital images of fractured rock surfaces. The fourth task of the project is to develop a machine-assisted solution to this image analysis. The resulting improved Infress system will be an excellent tool for solving applied geological problems in fluid mining, geothermal energy production, geotechnics, environmental geology (waste disposal) and a number of materials science problems (e.g. material fatigue).
