On the night of August 16, 2024, Hungary’s largest satellite, WREN (Water Resources in Efficient Networks), was launched from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base on a SpaceX Falcon-9 rocket. This latest 6U (20 cm × 10 cm × 34.05 cm) nanosatellite by C3S Ltd., a member of the Grepton Group, was developed in collaboration with consortium members, including COMBIT IT Co., Óbuda University, and Széchenyi István University. After reaching its orbit, it will regularly transmit remote-sensed data from Hungary’s territory.

Today, manufacturers are increasingly expected to offer a high degree of flexibility. Although Just-in-Time was largely pushed into the background during the covid era, it has been on the rise again in recent months. Nevertheless, the concept of mass customization or agile manufacturing is emerging in industries such as automotive and electronics. These are all new challenges for the decision-makers of manufacturing companies, who have to respond not only to ever-changing external conditions but also to changing customer and vendor needs – in significantly shorter timeframes than before.

In every company there is a need for some way to support decision-making by analysing data from or available to the company. These needs arise not only at senior management level, where operational and strategic decisions need to be made, but also at the departmental level, where planning, feedback and departmental decisions are needed. These may be regular needs, to be provided in the form of some kind of report or data, but more often ad-hoc needs to serve day-to-day work.
